What a great trip home! Did some shopping, packed the rest of my stuff up, even snuck in a king's night and a Tiger's game! The weather was so nice and summery and the pace was a classic Michigan meander which helped to balance the myriad things I had to do.
My trip back to Dublin has been...fun.
I got to the airport at 10:30am yesterday. I checked in and was headed out for Chicago by 12:30. O'Hare was a nightmare though. As if that airport wasn't enough of a sprawling, clumsy mess, they have made it into a real labaryinth by blocking off corridors for construction and rerouting you through the most dusty, unlikely nooks and crannies.
But I got on that plane. I got on it and we took off. And right around page 150 of A Thousand Splendid Suns (Elisa, how's your reading coming?), my beef ravioli dinner arrived and I tucked in, being sure to include one Ambien as my dessert.
I don't know what kind of crazy pill I took, but it wasn't Ambien. I was loopy and had no sense of balance--not the most critical skill on a plane in the air, but it's a comforting one to have mastery of. I dozed on and off but pretty much left the plane unrested.
By the time I got back to my apartment at 6:30 this morning, I was EXHAUSTED. Is that even the word for it? It needs its own new term, the way I was feeling, like "tiredrific".
I laid down and set my alarm for 8, and when I woke up at 9:45 I felt 10 times better. :) I guess I slept through my alarm. No one minded at my office--no one even noticed, to be honest, but as penance for something they didn't even notice they are sending me over to a client's office to proofread a bid we are co-authoring with them. So I'll be gone for the rest of the day. Proofreading. Lord give me strength.
Have a good Monday. To all the people I saw in MI--I MISS YOU ALREADY! And to all those I didn't get to see---I'm putting you down on my priority list for November!
*Evan, have a nice last day of work! Next time you get a paycheck, it'll be as a lllllaaaawwwwyyyeerrr!
