Cupcakes. Books.

Book Club tonight!! Booooook club!

I was trying to make some notes today at lunch in the kitchen and you would have thought I had a GMAT book out the way people were talking! People kept coming in going "Kerry, what are you cramming for?" and "Do you have an exam tonight Kerry?" and "Wow, I didn't know you were a professor!" LOL. It's a book. Put down your pint and try one sometime. :P

Anyway, I'm all ready to go for the book club, and while I was talking to some people at lunch about the book, which is set in WWII Germany near Dachau, I realized something. Living in Europe--or Ireland, which isn't Europe according to the Irish--people in the group may have visited Dachau, or even know people who have come from that area or even that era. Just in speaking with a few folks eating lunch today, 2 had visited Dachau and one knew a British vet who had helped liberate the camp. This could give a really interesting depth to the conversation tonight and it could also be really interesting for me to experience.

But also, I told them that our next novel will be Middlesex. Someone goes, "What's that about then?" and I said "A hermaphrodite growing up in Detroit." and the kitchen kind of freezes for a minute and then someone says, "Jaysus, you're on the wrong island fer tha' type o' book!" LOL! Ah, parochial, simple Ireland.

So, book club. So, me bringing in Duncan Heins cupcakes to work today. So, everyone going CRAZY. So, someone walking up to my desk with cupcake alllll over her face going:

Cupcake Face: "I had a cupcake."
Me: "You're joking."
Cupcake Face: "Do I have any on my face?"
Me: "You have all of it all over your face."
Cupcake Face: "I better go take care of that...with a spoon, not a towel. I want to eat it!"

If they only knew they could pick up a box for themselves from the import store in city centre. Nah, I'm thoroughly enjoying them calling me "Nigella" (I'm serious). LOL!

Hope your Wed goes well. Wish me luck on my book night!!!
