"Hulu Hoopla"

So let's try out hulu, the new tv network-developed video site. After all, in the month since it came online it's been mentioned in my Daily Candy email, Slate podcast, and TechCrunch RSS feed. That's my trifecta of morning-coffee-at-my-desk dose of pop culture!

The story goes that when the big 3 tv networks brought suits against YouTube for showing their copywrited material, YouTube was forced to pull it down and the networks vowed to make a YouTube-killer filled with their own content. Though it's not likely to be all that, hulu could be a great alternative to bittorrent downloading and other, lamer, less reliable tv sites. Provided it works with overseas IPs, I'll be giving it a go tonight to try and catch up on some much-missed US television.

So enough of that dorkiness. I have a question for you. Where do you find your dates? I've got a buddy in SE Mich who is experiencing a dating dry spell and looking for creative ways to find a date. Any ideas? Where did you find your last date/significant other?

Over here, it seems like the most common place for couples to have met is the pub. In fact, a really popular wedding gift is a framed picture of the pub where a couple met. Hoooow romantic. :) A common gripe with dating here is, "I want to meet someone, but the guys in my pub are either taken, jerks or I know them like a brother." It's funny, because back home I think girls say that about all guys, in the pubs or not. The drinking culture has this country in a steely grip, and it's interesting to see the ways in which it culturally manifests itself.

Well, I might as well buckle down and get through this day. Everyone seems to be in rare form around here since the break, and since I'm one of like 6 girls at this company, it's my job to bear the brunt of the anger, like a battered Galway wife. Very, very nice guys around here...Take that, American fantasy about dreamboat Irish men! However, to cope, I will be getting a batter burger for lunch, which is a dollop of batter deep fried and stuck between two buns. Oh yeah, real healthy. But hey, at least it's not a chip roll--sub sandwich filled with fries. Jesus!

Good Thursday!
