Barcelona is an amaaaaazing town. The streets are beautiful, beaches are pristine, food is outstanding, shopping is plentiful, museums are fantastic, people are friendly....on and on and on. It is an incredible town for a visit--has to be in the top 5 to visit over here.
Pictures are posted--aren't I prompt? :)
I tried to hold back from my typical breakneck sightseeing pace and just have a nice relaxing weekend, since I've been travelling so much lately. I was not dissapointed. With all the piazas in the city, parks around town and seaside walks, there are tons of places to chill out.
We saw La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's church that has been in construction since 1882 and is only 50% done. We also saw the Museo Picasso and went to Mount Tibidabo, the highest point in Barcelona, for the day. We went to the sea and I saw the Mediterranean for the first time (I think), and we had sangria, tapas, paella, gelato, gofres, and on and on and on. We saw the Park Guell where Gaudi's famous tiled benches are, and we saw lots of modern looking city buildings. Barcelona is the home of Gaudi and longtime home of Picasso and really embraces bold art and architecture, and you see it everywhere.
The weather was 7--75 and sunny all weekend. I got a little brown--as brown as you can get with now fullblown Irish skin. Stephen turned an even neon red.
We went and saw the magic fountains at night, which is this fountain with lights and music that people gather to watch after sunset on summer nights. I went shopping for summery clothes a little and packed my bags to the gills by the time we left.
And the best part is that since I've been away, Dublin has warmed up and spring has arrived! FINALLY. It's 60 and sunny today and everyone is in their sandals and tee shirts. This is as warm as you'll see it here all summer. Yay, great weather just in time for my birthday tomorrow! :)
Hope you had a good weekend too. Write and fill me in!!
