Vocab Lesson

When you've learned the basics for living in Ireland, you're ready for step 2: Intermediate Oirish:

ta: thanks

: yes in Irish

na habere: don't mention it, no problem (Irish)

bogger: a hick

howiya: a northsider, aka skanger, skobie, Anto

DNS: Da North Side, as in of the Liffey, as in the rough n' ready side of the city.

Jesus wept!: omg that is appalling

Ceol: music, as in music session "It was good craic and ceol"

Jo: Jo Maxi, the taxi (actually Cockney rhyme, borrowed)

Daniel Day: The LUAS, the name of the Dublin tram! ahahaha, awesome rhyming slang

Britneys: beers, rhyming with Britney Spears. Think this is a Ross O'Carroll-Kelly-ism

Ross O'Caroll-Kelly: The Bible for Dubliners--a fictional author whose novels chronicle living a life of leisure in Dublin's posh southern suburbs.

Birds: chicks

Jacks: Toilet, as in Union Jacks...some patriotism right there.

Class: awesome, as in "That concert was class!" also deadly

And yes, I do slip and use all those words from time to time. But yes, I promise to knock it off when I come home!

Have a good Tuesday!
