Gifts from Overseas

Heya Amurricans, here's some gifts I've heard you'll soon be receiving from overseas. Enjoy!

1. Happy Go Lucky, out Friday in US
British movie about a well-intentioned Polyanna. She's one in a long line of what Onion staff writer Nathan Rabin has coined "Manic Pixie Dreamgirls", those bubbly, high-on-life,  freespirited female characters who enliven uptight white males in modernday romantic coming-of-age stories. We're talking Natalie Portman in Garden State,  Kirsten Dundst in Elizabethtown, Kate Hudson in Almost Famous...you get the point. (see The Onion's full list of MPDG's.) Well, Happy Go Lucky is another addition to the list, but her character is drawn as uniquely and freshly as possible within the paradigm, and you are SURE to leave the theatre smiling. I saw this in a gruuuumpy mood a few months ago here in Dublin and walked out happy. Definitely check this out.

2. Ghost Town Opened 19th Sept in US
Ricky Gervais' first full-length film looks like it will be STELLAR. You might remember Gervais from the UK Office or his work as writer/director/actor on Extras. He....is hilarious. Let's be sure to check out this movie.

Hit TV show from Austrailia debuts in the States with Molly Shannon and Selma Blair playing the mother/daughter pair. I hope this is as funny as the Aussie TV show, because that usually has me in tears it's so funny. Check it out for me and let me know.

4. Absolutely Fabulous
YES! They're revamping an old UK classic (but you knew about Ab-Fab already, didn't you you fabulous thing?) Oh, please be good...

Have a great Thursday!
