The Dublin AM Metro ran a full frontpage photo this morning of the holiday lights on Grafton Street. I've been waiting to post a shot of this for a month or so. Grafton Street is the most famous shopping street in Dublin. You'll find it mentioned in all sorts of songs and poems including "On Raglan Road" (Luke Kelly does my favorite version if you're looking for it), Joyce mentions it loads in "Ulysses", and even Dido has a song named after it on her latest album. If you've been to Dublin, you've been down Grafton Street. Well, the decorations are always lavish, and these sparkling swags and chandeliers are my favorite. There are also 2 giant trees at either end of the street. But the coolest part about the lights this year is that Grafton Street is lit entirely by renewable energy this year. How great is that? Go Dublin!
I don't know where you are just yet, but I am ready for the holiday season. I've been looking at decorations, shopping for gifts, and I even think I'm ready to start listening to my holiday music. If you too have begun to dip your toe in the holiday pool, so to speak, here's some holiday sites that have been holding my attention:
Teri Gross interviews Stephen Colbert about his upcoming Christmas special: Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All. This piece will make you fall in love with Colbert the man as much as [or if you don't] you already love Colbert the character.
The Christmas shopping daydream combo that I can't get enough of.
Adorable holiday cards and card ideas. WARNING: Bride and Brood daydreams may ensue. Visit at your own risk!
Say what you want about Martha's financial prowess, her decorating and crafting sense is spot on. I love checking out her decorating ideas for the holidays.
Have a good weekend!
