This is the View....doo-ba-lee doooo...

I can’t say enough about this office’s view. It is a good view! I mean, it looks out at some construction, some cranes, there are a few congested roads and car parks in view, but when look past it out to the horizon……look out! This view is fierce.

I sit sort of in the middle of the building (the building is narrow---maybe as wide as Dunder-Mifflen office in The Office), with windows to my left and right. The building is situated on a foothill at the base of Wicklow Mountain, so it has a good range of view.

Out the window to the left, there is Wicklow mountain. It is usually fog-topped, and has a crown of pine trees. There are patchwork fields and little cottages on its slopes, and teeny tiny puffy white sheep graze all through it. When storms come through, they usually roll over the top of the mountain and down toward the sea, catching us in their path.

The window to my right has a view of the Irish Sea. We can see the peninsula of Howth (pronounced “hoat”), and beyond that you can see the Eye of Ireland, a tiny island off the coast. The sea is usually very blue and clear, unless there are really grey clouds in, in which case the sea mirrors the sky. Usually at some point during the day a fog sets in on the harbour.

Here is a crappily-drawn sketch of the office’s position. Don’t judge me. I love the view, okay?

So beyond that, my days have been a little bit slow. If you haven’t noticed, I’m obsessing about fog on a mountain…you could say I really need to get out. You could say it, and you’d be right. Last night I finally got to meet and talk with my flatmate, Fiona, who’s from the lowlands of Scotland. She took 2 years after university to travel, and she’s been all over the world. So, it was pretty funny to me when she pulled out her favourite bottle of wine of all time, can’t-get-enough-of-it, been around the world and seen a lot of places but I know what I love…..it was Sutter Home. And don’t get me wrong—I like the stuff! I’ve been stealing sips from my mom’s glass since I was a kid! It was a really kind gesture, though, and since it’s imported from the fine Sutter Home vineyards of Northern Encino, CA, I know it must be expensive here. So it was nice, really.

I wonder how things are going at home. My family is going up to the cottage this weekend for the family girl’s weekend….something I planned, got everyone excited for, then promptly bailed on and left for Ireland!! I’m going to miss all the fun, so I hope everyone keeps me in their thoughts up there.

Hope everyone’s doing well. Write me!
