Oh Baby Oh Baby

You know, I've been becoming more and more fashion forward ever since I got here. I've been giving due diligence to window shopping, I've been accessorizing, I've been reading the magazines. And, on occassion I've been shopping, adding to my wardrobe of persistently frumpy tee shirts and sweaters.

The last few weeks I've been really making an effort to wear my new clothes into work and to try and dress to the nines as much as possible. So far I thought myself mighty hot-to-trot....

And then I walked in the bathroom about an hour ago and for the first time really saw what I was wearing.

I look straight up pregnant.

What is with the tops lately? Why are we all lookin' preggers? I was headed home last night and on the train platform I laughed as a wind caught all the girls tops (including mine) and they just BILLOWED from the boobs down. Who has convinced us to wear maternity garb...and why? There's nothing flattering about it, really. You see someone in a shirt like that and you just know in your heart of hearts that she's prob got a belly. And what's hot about a belly?

I should just be glad that these flowy tops are covering all those muffin tops you used to see around town. God love the muffin top....cuz no one else does! There is nothing more nasty than two inches of fat creeping out the top of a pair of low-rise jeans. Ick.

I hope to God you guys are wearing these preggo tops in the States right now, cuz I am going to be MORTIFIED if I get off the plane in this stuff and people are gawking. I'll be the first one in Pacific Sunwear buying a tube top (called "boob tubes" here, btw) just to prove to the world that my 1. my stomach does exist and 2. it is not with child.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, a taste of what I'm talking about:

This is basically the top I wore today, minus the disaffected stare.

She's looking at the baby that just dropped out .

Nice shirt....for growing a baby.

You know what they say: Ugly top, ugly fetus.

And lastly, in a fit of fashion passion, I pass on great news about H&M's new Sims2 clothing line! (ahem Monk!)

  1. ok the same thing happened to me on my birthday. i think i look all cute in the store, and then i look back on pictures from the night and i think to myself "wait, when did i get knocked up??" it's mortifying! and i really refuse to wear that shirt anymore now. but yeah, they're apparently big on the maternity wear here too, which i suppose is good for like half our department ;)
