The fever is setting in over here. On Monday, three flags magically appeared one wall of the office: Scottish, Welsh and Australian. Guess who put them up? ...The Scot, the Aussie and the Welsh guy, you dummy! Every country is getting fired up for their rugby team!!!
I have been invited to put an American flag up, because the US is participating in the World Cup. But....and I'm going to try to put this delicately...I don't know if the flag would be up long enough to justify its cost.
You might think, "What? Kate, don't be a Euro-snob. America is known for its tough, manly FOOTBALL! We'll do great at rugby!"
That might be true. But go ahead and tell me the difference between these two pictures:

Yeah, it looks a little tougher when you're playing the same game in LEISURE SHORTS AND A POLO SHIRT. Also, it really punctuates the homoeroticism of both sports, n'est pas? I think the rule in the States is "it ain't gay if the guy has shoulder pads on."
Well, so, in a month or so it's going to be nuts in Europe. And Ireland's in the tournament, too...in which capacity and for what duration, I'm unsure, but for what it's worth, the Irish are pulling their weight in the pre-Cup excitement.
And I hope you do too. Tune in, watch it, check it out. I bet football fans would like it. I bet soccer fans would like it. I bet gay guys would like it. I bet chicks...chicks might not like it. It's pretty violent. People get seriously hurt in scary ways. So I actually don't like it. But you may, and you ought to check it out. :)
