When I was home, I realized how unaware America is of European goings on. I don't blame the public--the media just don't seem to cover it. And it amazes me, really, because they'll give TONS of attention to things like, "Diapered Man Charged with Stalking Teen" (cnn.com AND msnbc.com today), or how Nick and Jessica's breakup was covered on Headline News back in 2006. They scrape the bottom of the barrel for news when there's hard-hitting, pertinent stuff going on in other parts of the world.
Well, so, here's an itty-bitty, totally painless Euro update. If MSNBC isn't gonna cover it, I might as well!
Rugby World Cup
Unless you know my old coworker Jenn, you probablly don't know that the Rugby World Cup is going on. That's too bad, because literally the rest of the world is on the edge of their seats on this one. And I can't believe this isn't being covered in the States--the U.S. is in the tournament! Not rocking it, but we're in there! Anyway, don't feel too bad, I'm not watching this either (I don't like sports), but you know, it's just good to know what the entire world as one is up to.
Ukraine Be Actin' Crazy
They beg to be in the EU, then they fight with Brussels, now PM Victor Yushchenko is acting all sassy. It's like a post-Soviet catfight.
...I'm gonna write this next one, and I'm going to hope you know this anyway, and I'm just being a jerk for writing what you already know. Cuz this ain't exactly about backwoods Chechnya. It's our nation's longest and strongest ally...
Gordon Brown
The UK has a new prime minister. Tony Blair has stepped down, and Gordon Brown took his place in June. Like Blair, he's part of the Labour Party. He looka likea this:

LOL, I guess England in all its pro-Bush sympathy opted to elect a PM as closely resembing Dubya as possible. Ridiculous.
And lastly, my favorite news:
Sorry guys, the dollar is at an all-time low as compared to the Euro. I hate to root for the devaluing of my homeland's currency, but at the end of the day I get paid in €, and the rewards are SWEET. I watch the ticker daily to see what € is trading at, and when I saw it hit $1.390 yesterday I almost shouted at my desk. Bad for anyone coming to visit, but great for coming home and treating everyone to a lot of Michigan fun. :)
And lastly, my favorite news:

LOL! "Ukraine be actin crazy" needs to be submitted to CNN or MSNBC, because clearly they need some news to report. You know if that was the actual headline, way more people would be reading that story ;)
