HOUSE PARTY TONIGHT!

We're finally having our housewarming party tonight. House parties are managed a little differently over here. First off, the house doesn't supply alcohol: parties are strictly BYOB. And because it's Ireland, that means that each person rolls in with either a case of beer, 4 bottles of wine, or a fifth of spirits for themselves. The house then supplies all the necessary mixers: orange (oj), white (lemonade), cranberry, sodas, tonic, limes and lemons.

Also, a house party isn't a party without "nibbles", or snack foods. People demand nibbles. Hosts and hostesses spend a lot of time and money on getting the perfect nibbles. Guests ask if there are any nibbles they can bring. You must set out various nibbles around the house. You must have a wide variety of nibbles, ranging from pre-drink cocktail sausages, drinking peanuts and pretzels, to post-drink pizza, lasagna and egg rolls.

And here I've been taking guff for the US was being the fattest country in the world...

But then, it's like Freud said: The Irish are the only people that are impossible to psychoanalyze.


So that's it! House party with a MASSIVE amount of techno on the playlist (I tried....I tried my best to get a little JayZ and NERD and old school Biggie on there. In the end, resistance was futile). It'll be "good craic", as the Irish say. Good fun.
