Guy is Very Very, Extra-or-di-na-ry

Remember, remember the fifth of November The gunpowder, treason and plot, I know of no reason Why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot.
HAPPY GUY FAWKES!

You'll remember from this post that I consider the British to be, at times, rather violent.

This holiday doesn't exactly help the reputation.

Today the UK celebrates the day that Guy, a Roman Catholic, was derailed in his plot to blow up the House of Parliament and kill King James I.

He was savagely tortured--I mean savagely--beaten, bled to within an inch of his life.....but the good news is that he managed to escape from his hangmans scaffold and break his own neck before they could draw and quarter him.

And this was in the 1500s. And England is still celebrating it. Seriously. Bitter. People.

But nevermind Guy Fawkes! We're not celebrating it here in the Republic of Ireland anyway (though up in Northern Ireland there will be celebrating tonight--parades and fires and fireworks).

What we did celebrate was a little housewarming on Friday night. It was a great time, but the little missus who was responsible for photos unfortunately got sauced before she fulfilled her photog duties. So you'll just have to take my word for it--it was a good time. We had a cocktail area where people tried on their mixologist hats...with mixed results, if you know what I mean. And on Saturday I had the honor of cleaning up the entire mess myself, becuase the rest of my house was at a family event. So, it was a good time, but not one I'll be having again any time soon! :)

So after that I got a special delivery of PICTURES from COUNTY KERRY! Take a look: I've posted them on picassa, along with the photos from Fiona's "fancy dress" (aka Halloween) party in Malahide!

As per usual, you can visit these albums any time via my "view my travel photos" link above right.
