C-c-c-c-cold!

Well, I'm cold. It's a high of 37 degrees in Dublin today, and I'm looking at a view of a very snow-capped Three Rock (the mountain that my office is next to). Somehow, I managed to pack Michigan weather up in my suitcase when I came back.

I am cold when:
  • I'm in my office, because we have the cheapest landlord ever. I have to wear tennis shoes so that my toes stay thawed.
  • At home. OUR FURNACE IS BROKEN and the pilot light is forever going out, so this morning I woke up to a house that hadn't been heated in 8 hours. Got ready with my blankets still on.
  • Walking everywhere. My 2 mile walk to work today was blustery and 28 degrees. Even better, the Starbucks I bought to perk myself up spilled allll ovah me, which turns out to be at first a very hot experience, quickly fading to a very cold experience.
And that's basically my entire 24-hour day right there! Lately I've been spending the entire evening under my covers in my room.....in part because of the roomies, in part because I am living an eskimo's existence!

And don't you Michiganders go all hardened on me and tell me that you have it worse. You just get in your well-heated office, then take your well-heated car back to your well-heated house at the end of the day, and you hush up. Yeah, I said it. Hush your pie.

Today I saw for the first time with my own eyes the phenomenon of putting sand on the roads to maintain traction. I was crossing the street and thought, "Jesus, that truck just sprayed dirt and rocks at me!" That's when I realized it was tactical. The sand truck served a dual purpose: To dissolve the slippery threat of ice, and to put the final nail in the coffin of my Starbucks, which was now littered with bobbing pebbles.

LOL, come on! SAND?! You warm-weather fogies got it all wrong! You know that something needs to be put on the roads, but you just can't remember what. Is it marshmallows? Is it fuity pebbles? Is it tacks? What is it those penguins in the North chuck out there? Is it sand dollars? Possibly.....I just can't recall!!!

Anyway, so I'm here now, and I am still cold, but I'm about to go prepare some peppermint tea to thaw my lil fingers. You have a good day, and whatever you do, STAY WARM!
