Franch!

Sometimes you forget you're away from the US. You forget you're somewhere different. Sometimes it seems so similar to home....but then you come across an ad like this. And you remember you're in Catholic, Catholic Ireland.

LOL, it's for an interior store. When have you gone into a Crate and Barrel and said, "you know, I do like your sofas....but I'm looking for a bit more reverency in my interior store."

ANYWAY!

Last night was French class! OMG are the Irish hilarious in that light. First off, it's a class of 12 held in an old 1900's home on the river. The home has been converted into a school, but very roughly--our classroom has a 19th century fireplace opposite the whiteboard.

So my teacher is a 25-year old French girl named Lucile, and for those of you who know of my Parisian friend Virginie she is the very clone of Virginie. And for those of you lucky enough to meet my French sister Sarah, she is Sarah's voice double.

So at one point she goes around the room and asks everyone where they are from in French. She says things like (in case you know French), "Je suis Francaise, et toi?" or "Vous ette Irelandaise, non?" And you just go "Non, je suis Americanne" or whatever.

So she gets through the bulk of us, and heads over to a Dublin girl named Bernadette. This girl is a bit rough around the edges--definately born and bred Dubliner. Also, like her other Irish classmates, she is TERRIBLE at French and the accent.

Lucile goes, "Vous ette Irelandaise?" and she goes "Nah." and Lucile says, "No, I asked you eef you are Irish. Vous ette Irelandaise?" and the girl goes, real loudly, "Yeah!". Not "oui", not "bien sur".....YEAAAH.

LOL.

Nice.

So anyway, I'm going to enjoy that class. I sat next to a big burly New Zealander named Ray who is really bad at French and his big football shaped head blushes when he speaks. Poor guy, we all had to say "Je suis American" or "Je suis Anglaise" and he has to manage to pronounce "Neo-Zealandais". It's a tough one. He was funny tho. I love watching a jock self educate. :)

Well, tonight I'm going to be a good Gymifer Aniston, a Gymothy Gunn, a Gym Carrey. Bugh. But you know, you gotta. If you want to eat the ben and jerrys for dinner, you gotta.

Have a good Thursday!
