Glad and S.A.D.

Okay, I'm back, I'm back! I've had a long and busy last few days!

On Saturday I went to see Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute" at the National Concert Hall. I got all dressed up and headed down and, well, it turns out it was a children's rendition! There were stuffed animals on stage, a guy in a big bird costume and TALKING between the songs to explain them. Nice. Also, true to form in less-than-politically-correct Ireland, "The Moor" was played by an Irish dude in blackface. Just...........wow.

Soooo that ended up being an interesting experience! I'm sure it's not exactly what people have told me the opera would be, although my interest has been piqued to see another opera some other time. I hear Madame Butterfly is coming to Dublin in the next month or so, so I can't wait to see that!

In other news, I took the GRE yesterday, the qualifying exam for US grad school. The funny news is that I scored in the 35th percentile for math (in fairness, I played abacadaba on it, because that score doesn't matter for my fields of interest). The great news is that I scored a whole lot better than that on the Verbal section, so I think I might begin applying to a few grad schools in the next month or so! Whether I get in or not is another story, but I'll shoot a few apps off to a couple of schools anyway just for kicks.

Well today is a grey and rainy day in Dublin. The days are getting shorter and shorter too. In fact, I've been waking up in the dark for the last 2 weeks now, and the sun sets around 6 or so these days.  Daylight savings is in 2 weeks, after which point I won't see sunlight until March. It is my least favorite part about living up here in Ireland. Better get one of those honkin' big light therapy sun lamps to stave off the S.A.D.

So have a great Tuesday! Stay warm and dry!
