Maggie Mae: Rod Stewart, Eat Your Heart Out

Aw look what found its way home with my Mom and Dad this weekend!

That's Maggie Mae, the newest member of the Tomkie family. Hiya Maggie!

Well that's just about the cutest thing ever. She ought to have a Ty label stuck to her ear. Look out, Riley, you got some real competition now!

So it was a good weekend for the folks and it was a good weekend here in Dublin, too. Nothing compared to Italy last weekend, but as I've said before, leaving Italy for Ireland is not the worst fate to befall a person. I'm eeking out an existance, but just barely. Don't mind me. :)

Hehe, no it was a great weekend! On Friday I hung out with TWO Michiganders! Plus a Norwegian. I was meeting up with Jess who came to Ireland on BUNAC (same program as me in 2005). She's working as an au pair in Cabinteely in south Dublin. We went to see The Duchess (blah) and then met up with my friend Claire, a UM alum, and her Norwegian flatmate. We went pubbing and it was fun.

So Saturday I had a great skype with Elisa and I did some gymming and cleaning but Dublin was a quiet one due to the wind and rain and general all-around poopy weather. Sunday was lovely though and I went out to the Royal Dublin Society or RDS, a big auditorium in Ballsbridge, to see the play "Black Watch" with Tessa.

The play was FANTASTIC. It was about, well, the Black Watch, a Royal Highland regiment of soldiers as fierce and esteemed as the US Marines. 800 Black Watch soldiers have been sent to fight in Iraq and this play was the retelling of their experience. They play is fresh and innovative and is way ahead of its time. I was so, so impressed and hope everyone gets a chance to see this show. I have been really lucky so far in the Dublin Theatre Festival to see 3 fantastic plays, but in fairness I did pick the most highly touted ones just to hedge my bets. But man am I glad I did! On Tuesday I'm heading to "The Cripple of Inismaan", a play by Martin MacDonnagh. If you've seen In Bruges, you'll know his work. Now that movie was incredibly dark but fantastic in its own right so I am eager to see how Inismaan "plays" out (har har).

Have a good Monday! Think of me tonight when I try my new circuit routine out at the gym. Oh 9 to 5 workaday life, how you've expanded the parts of me that didn't need expanding, and contracted the freedoms I've never wished gone! :)
