One Armed Bandit Strikes Again

the most ignorant, loudmouthed, outspoken, worthless, crude, pathetic person in the office--Jeni, let's name her--just sat here for 15 minutes shouting at the top of her lungs that the US government can't do anything right, including "save their own economy". "They couldn't even sign a bill properly!" She went on and on about how WRONG the US is and how they can't do anything right.

Well, I took it for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then 15 minutes, then finally set her in her place. I told her there are other solutions, and that the American taxpayer shouldn't have to shell out $700m to recover mistakes that big biz made. That there are other solutions. That Americans are naturally reticent to back a rushed bill proposed by a president with a 74% disapproval rating--the highest in US history. This is when she told me that I didn't understand it from a global perspective.

And that is when I stared, and stared, and stared at her, then turned around and ended that conversation. This is my version of mastering my emotions. I'm pretty sure I'm not comfortable dignifying this woman with my reply. A reply that would explain that I spend roughly 2 hours of every day reading the news in 3 countries. Also, that I won't be told what I know and don't know by her or anyone else. I was........pretty sure that my temper was going to get the best of me.

Look, Americans, back me up on this. I'm feeling just the sliiightest bit alone on this one over here. It's hard, I was here towards the start of the war in 2005 and I'm here now during the financial crisis and I just feel like I'm put in the awkward position of defending my country so, so much, and a lot of that is defending a president who I didn't even vote for. It is awful, and people feel like they can say whatever they want about the States. There's a carte blanche there, it's hard to explain but if you've lived over here you'll know what I mean.

Okay I'm done I have to stop I'm too angry. Talk tomorrow.

  1. i remember when i was abroad people use to shit talk the US all the time and i agree with you its hard to defend bush. I just look at it as there are better times to come, a new president. You can only say so much and half the time the person your trying to argue against doesn't even care about your point of view. they just want to rant.
