Things I'm About 9.2.09

I cannot tell a lie. I totally downloaded Pure Moods vol. 1 last night. Listening to it takes me back, but what takes me even FARTHER back is the category it's filed under in Amazon.com: Hits 1980-1989. Oh NO! Is Pure Moods technically 80's? I would have given it at least an early 90's sentancing. Man when you can still remember the Pure Moods infomercial and subsequent movie theme songs featured on the album, maybe you're showing your age.

I've been up to quite a bit in the last week:

Pasttime: 10k
I'm training for the Great Ireland Run 2009, a 10k in Phoenix Park in April. I've built up to about 4k at the moment and tonight I'm going for a 4.5k run. Wish me luck!

Shop: Zara
Unless you're in NYC or San Fran, you don't have it, which is sad. Zara is a Spanish high-end H&M of sorts. To give you another example, take Mango, send it to bed with Banana Republic, raise their lovechild to be about 5-6 sizes bigger than Mango's largest size (which are ridiculously small) and you've got Zara. If that doesn't work, I pulled this pic down from Zara.com:

Movies
A couple of weeks ago I raved and raved about The Wrestler on the blog. I've got two more films to rave about after this weekend's viewing enjoyment. Milk is everything they're saying it is. Van Sant does it again, to be sure. This one is not to be missed, such a fantastic biopic. It writes the book on biopics, and not enough can be said about Sean Penn in this role (or James Franco in his role...the role of droolworthy Supporting Hottie). That man earned his paycheck.
The other film I really, really enjoyed this weekend was Rachel Getting Married. I have my doubts that Anne Hathaway's performance is Oscar-worthy, but the script itself is phenomenal. The dialogue drills down to the heart of familial strains and stress, and if you are a sister, you MUST see this film. It epitomizes sisterhood in one particularly wordlesss scene that yes, did leave me a visibily sobbing mess. And if that all wasn't enough, it must be said that this is the best wedding I have ever seen. In fact, if it comes to pass that I don't have Tobagoan belly dancers at my wedding, I just don't know if I'll ever be happy.

Snow
Okay I'm NOT about the multiple snowshowers we've had here in Dublin over the last week. However, on my day off last week I did get the chance to walk around and phtograph a little, and I've posted the rare Irish-snow-pics here for your eyeball enjoyment:

  1. Woo hoo on the 10k! Thats great! Hope all is going well with you Kate. Ann Arbor is in full flood alert since our snow melted this week with temperature in the 50s and 60s. One of these days when you come back home, I hope I can finally catch up with you. Since it seems like I go home when you go home and I go back to A2 when you go back to Ireland. Craziness!
