LOL I forgot how out of proportion she was when she was a puppy! Elisa, do you still want a corgi after seeing that?? Good Lord! But yes, she's been here all night keeping me company.
Anyway, I got home from Borders today to be greeted by Evan Pickering, who had brought me a bread machine from a pawn shop.
I'll only say this once: True love comes and goes, but a pawn-shop bread machine is forever.
His face was one of a child's on Christmas morning, arms full of the filthy, yellowed 80's bread maker. He spent the rest of this evening recipe hunting, scrubbing, grocery shopping, and eventually baking with his newfound friend. I get the feeling he's trying to convince me it's a perfectly-good machine, because he's now just starting to enter dad-years, and dad's like to go about proving things like that. The quality of handmedown junk. But he's gone now to the bar for a couple of hours, and I'm here alone with the breadmaker, which just beeped menacingly. I'm concerned that once the loaf has cooled and been sliced, there will be something....maybe a hair, maybe a condom, maybe a gold tooth. No, I don't think I'll be having any bread tonight, even if it was baked with love and good intentions.
Otherwise it's been a great day. I'm settling into the quiet life. I take my iPod with me when I go out, and I'm really enjoying finding little activities to keep me busy. It's still a struggle, especially when Evan's here telling me exciting news and I have no way to respond, but those are the challenges, those are the hard parts. And I'm finding that the hard parts really just lead to lessons: about patience, about biding time, and ultimately about biting your tongue. After all, there's a lot to be loved in a good listener.

YES, I still want a corgi after that pic...Norah's a cutie. And I want the uglier one, lol, the cardigan! haha. Good luck on your quest...glad to read that you are taking on these challenges and learning from them. =)
