I'm learning a lot of new things about slovic nations.
For example, around Easter, young men court women. The guys and girls both get all dressed up in their finest. They walk around town and kinda strut for each other. Then, the guys get out giant buckets of ice water and dowse the girls.
Aw. That's sweet.
Stefan from Slovakia sent me an article on dowsing fromThe Slovak Spectator, an online newspaper about Slovakia:
"Subtle?"
She looks smitten.
Evan, if you had thrown a bucket of ice water on me before our first date, what would have happened?
Jesus, Eastern Europeans are a steely, thick-skinned people. They celebrate with hard labor, their delectables are root vegetables, and they court with torture methods. LOL, it's remarkable, really.
Now, for a second point of interest. NPR is running character studies on some of the past and present's most interesting figures in lit and film. Characters include Seymour from "Letters to Salinger", Harriet from "The Scarlett Letter", and Gordon Gekko from "Wall Street". This week's character: Cookie Monster. Hearing the voices of NPR character study one of the most awesome monsters in history is definately worth a listen. They even play the original version of "Mna mna" at the end. Great way to wake up this morning, on my adult commute with my adult latte and the adult rain blowing in my face at a very adult early hour.
Is this going to be a good weekend? My boyfriend is on spring break. I'm jealous. Jealous 5000. Good weekend for him, fo sho! Shayna are you on spring break too? Is the snow melting yet in MI? That could make for a good weekend. Over here, I think I'll be going to the movies, going to the Abbey Theatre to take in an Irish play, doing a photography walk, going to get my fry on Saturday morning, going for a run, and getting some reading in before my book club meeting next week.
SO have a good weekend! Talk Monday!
