Joe European

Yesterday was rough. We'll leave it at that.

Today is a new day, and I am looking forward to great things on the horizon! Great things include:

  1. Parents visit, April
  2. Aran Islands, April
  3. Venice, April
  4. Barcelona, May
  5. Amsterdam, May
  6. Kara visits, June
  7. I visit home, July
  8. Evan maybe visits?, August
  9. Sarah Barr visits, Sept-Oct
  10. Japan, Oct

And a bo-jillion little trips in between. So that's nice, isn't it? That's the good stuff, right? The stuff I came over to do? The stuff that I was looking forward to?

Now, I have to tell you, last night was the final night of my French 1 course! It was sad...malaise, I mean. But the up side was that afterward I went out to the pub with a few of the folks in the class and had a good night. One of the guys became a bit of a Joe-European upstart after a few pints and decided he was in top form to critique my country. So predictable: Someone has a couple of beers, get a socially lubricated, and this line is uttered: "Can I ask you a question?"

I've started replying directly. "No, I didn't vote for Bush."

Excuse me, do I meet Chinese people and tell them I don't like Communism? Do I meet French people and tell them Sarcozy is sleazy? Do I meet Germans and tell them to lay off the booze and weiners because it makes them smell bad? I do not. I sip my pint, ask nice questions, and make a few friends.

But no matter! Joe-European didn't hold me down. I still had a great night and it was lots of fun. I can't wait for French 2 to end so we can all go out together again!

Anyway, it's sunny and 45 over here, which is the best weather we've had this month yet, so I'm taking myself on a walk down to Dunnes to get some luncharoo. Have a good Thursday!
