Nancy Drew and the Curse of the Pink Cowgirl Hat

AW YEAH! My luck is lookin up today! It appears my ghetto booty is staving off the bane of Wilford Brimley's existence.

Booty: Friend. Companion. Health vigilante.

I'm glad you're here today. It's a good day to be on the blog. Today I'll tell you about my first-ever hen night.

A hen night is a bachleorette party in the UK and Ireland, which means it gets a lot drunker and a lot more ridiculous.

Brits love playing dress up (aka costumes, aka fancy dress) more than anyone on the planet, and that has spilled over into Ireland as well. There are a range of costumes women don, but one costume stands out above the rest as the very symbol of the hen night: The Pink Felt Cowgirl Hat. You'll find them littering the streets like pink beached jellyfish on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
I hate them. A lot. But I do hope that one day if I ever get married, my friends will hunt down and find a pink cowgirl hat for me in the US, and I will officially join the club.

Now, fortunately for me, I went to a POLISH hen night last Saturday (a "panienskie"), which means the bride retains a shred of dignity when the night is over. But just a shred. And by the end of this post, that shred may be gone.

Yes, there was alcohol--Polish cocktail of vodka and champagne (is that really a cocktail? really??). "Kerry drink the cocktail." "Barbara, that isn't a cocktail. That is nailpolish remover."

Yes, there is a male stripper. Justyna's face basically captures the essence of the moment. That is a true OMG face.

And yes, there were lots of girls being girly. But you know, other than that it was basically your average bachelorette party. Everyone had a great time, and Justyna had a GREAT GREAT time. When we looked at this picture on Monday morning, we couldn't figure out why it was taken. Then we realized:

LOL! Look at everyone around her, totally mild-mannered dancing like extras on a Saved By The Bell set. Oh, that is so the kind of picture you beg people not to post. he he he.

Anyway, fun time--makes me wish I was home for all the weddings this summer! :( The good news is girls, you have some seriously fun nights to look forward to!
