Grab Your Paddles!

Great news! My trip to Armagh this weekend was fantastic, and you can see pictures here:

Bad news: Ireland is flooded.

This island gwan float away, anymore rain come.

Co. Armagh [ar-mah] is called the Orchard County because of all its apple orchards. After the week of flash floods we've had, the orchards are in good part completely submerged. You can see in my photos pictures of places that were fields when I came up on Saturday, then lakes when I left on Sunday. Whole trees are submerged to their tops. It's unreal. The train was slowed to a crawl while it floated its way through flooded tracks. Everywhere is brimming. Some August!

Meantime, people are making some serious headway in our bookclub's August book, John Banville's The Sea. There's a lot of great commentary circulating on Banville's diction and character development--can't wait to see thoughts going up on the Dublin Book Club website! Very exciting! Also, if you've read the book or would like to read about it, feel free to visit the site!

Hope everyone has a good Monday--God willing the weather is nicer in your part of the world. See you tomorrow!
