Well, this weekend was a quiet one as a cold January rain fell on Dublin and I recovered from a little cold. Here's what I was all about this weekend:
World Without End
I tore through a big chunk of this 1300-page medieval ballbuster of a novel this weekend. Follett writes a good page-turner of a book, even if this, the sequel to the epic Pillars of the Earth, is a bit lackluster. It smacks of Dan Brown's tactic for writing a sequel: Exactly replicate everything in a slightly different setting. But still, it's worth a January lazy-day read.
USDA My Pyramid Tracker
The US Dept of Agriculture's food pyramid website is chock-a-block with helpful health tips. I was really impressed with this site and ended up spending a good chunk of my weekend checking out daily requirements, analyzing my food and exercise choices, and looking for healthy alternatives. This is the perfect site for a new-year-new-you mindset, or just for those looking to ditch the holiday weight. www.MyPyramidTracker.gov
Oh, Mint. I cannot say enough about you. This finance website YOU MUST CHECK OUT. This is the strongest endorsement you'll hear me give to a website. It has FANTASTIC sync capabilities with all US financial institutions (and even some Irish ones holla!), investment firms, credit cards, auto loans, and even credit agencies. You can create budgets and keep an eye on your savings/checking/investments in real-time. The mint status emails keep you really well informed of your finances with at-a-glance updates and now there's free iPhone apps too. It's so fast, so easy, so painless and so helpful, how could you not at least give this site a test drive?
Slumdog Millionaire
I wrapped up my throat and ventured out into the drizzle for lunch and a movie with a friend. We saw Slumdog Millionaire to analyze the hype for ourselves. Oh, I have to tell you, this movie is such a treat! I cannot express enough how lovely it is. The first really fantastic film I've seen in possibly a year. It's not too fluffy, not too dark, but just real and honest and classic and timeless all at once. You definitely have to see this one while it's still in theatres!
And that's my weekend done! Showed Stephen how to make meatloaf and chili, ate said meals, watched A Bee Movie, slept, and boom, here comes Monday!
Have a great week!
