On January 1, 2007, the country of Romania was welcomed into the European Union.
The EU is a political and economic community that boasts such partcipants as Ireland, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and more.
Now a year into their entry into the EU, Romania seems to be assimilating very quickly to the cultures mentioned above....or maybe not...

You've got to see the rest of the photos, which I've most generously posted here:
The pictures say it best, but, well, to say Romania is pretty far behind other EU countries in overall development is a GROSS understatement.
And if that doesn't tickle your pickle, and you're needing something much more pleasant, you simply MUST check out Nellie McKay, the crooning, tongue-and-cheek songstress reminicent of Doris Day and Judy Garland. She was on NPR's World Cafe last night and sang a few songs, which you can hear here. A real treat for the ears.
As for me, tonight is the company party to celebrate winning posession of 99% of the cell phone towers in Ireland a few weeks ago. It's full dinner (choice of baked salmon or thai beef, mmm), dessert, dancing, and an open bar from 4:30pm til 2am. I'm sitting here at 11am dressed like it's a Saturday night, and all the rest of the girls in the office are the same. We look like little starlets peppered among the guys, who are all wearing their candy coloured button down shirts and have their hair gelled up nice and plastic like. Ah, Euro...
Have a good Wednesday!!
