It's officially winter in Dublintown! At home in Michigan, winter means snow, icicles, mittens, hot chocolate, sledding hills, sleigh rides, mead, carolling, yule logs...wait, I've stumbled into a Currier and Ives painting...
So maybe that's not 100% true, but it is true that winter is mighty wintery in Michigan. Have you wondered what it's like in Ireland in the winter? Well, wonder no more. This week marks the first week of Irish winter weather, predominantly characterized by...

...cold rain. yeah. Makes the yuletides gay.
I think we can all admit that there's nothing more awful than cold rain. It makes your nosey run and your toesies freeze, and for a chick with no car, it's particularly cruddy. But no one, not NO one gets more sympathy from me for having to tolerate the cold rain than these guys:

Ugh, soaking wet, cold wool? Poor Irish sheepsies!!!!
But rainy weather isn't the only thing that came sweeping in this weekend. It's now safe to say that the Christmas season is upon us (or me) here in Dublin! CHRISTMAS!! I've got Christmas spirit enough for ten folks this year! I was whistling "The Holly and the Ivy" on the way to work today, and I specially created my own Chrsitmas cards this year and photoshopped them and sent away to have them made! I'm far away from home, and this holiday is about home more than any other day of the year, so I think I'm embracing it as part of my homesickness.
At any rate, if you're interested in how Dublin celebrates Christmas, visit ChristmasinDublin.com, a site that's soon to be updated for the 2007 Xmas season, but for now is a good marker for how the city celebrates. There's even a pronunciation guide for Nollaig Shona Duit, "Merry Christmas" in Irish.
So Merry Monday, soon to be Merry Christmas. :)

yowzers that is a lotta christmas spirit, awfully early I would say. Might I remind you of an even better holiday that is occuring in the not too distant future and lasts for eight awesome days and nights..that's right..the festival of lights. In honor of me, they are starting Hannukah the evening after my birthday this year.
